The Decatur City Schools Foundation was formed in 1992 by a group of citizens in Decatur to raise funds to be given back to the schools in the form of grants for teachers with creative ideas to enhance learning. Funds are donated to the Foundation by citizens and businesses in our community who seek to deal proactively with school budget limitations by providing funding that supports exciting academic enrichment programs that would otherwise not be affordable or available for our students.

In 2004, the Foundation achieved its initial goal of raising a principal of one million dollars completely from the community of Decatur, the results of a year-long grass roots campaign. This campaign raised over 1.2 million dollars over the course of five years. The Foundation's board made the decision to hire an executive director and conduct a second capital campaign which is currently underway.

Since its establishment, the Decatur City Schools Foundation has provided a total of $558,766 toward creative projects that enhance our students' education in the Decatur City Schools. Nearly half of this amount was distributed through hundreds of classroom mini-grants to teachers, schools and PTAs. The remaining funds were provided for major initiatives, teacher training and other projects or materials.
