Student Achievement
We are deeply committed to elevating student achievement across Decatur City Schools, with a strong emphasis on strengthening literacy and math outcomes. Through targeted initiatives such as the Million Word Challenge, March Madness Reading Competition, Library Book Program, Mathletes, and Scholars' Bowl, we are creating meaningful opportunities for academic growth and student engagement. Thanks to these strategic investments, performance on state assessments has risen significantly, with students in grades 3–8 showing a 10% increase in Math and an 11% increase in English Language Arts since 2021.
Million Word Challenge
"I became a Million Word Challenge reader because I love to read. I always have a book with me. This year I wanted to prove to myself that I could complete this challenge earlier than I did last year and I did it!"
- Lucy Farley, Fifth Grader at Walter Jackson Elementary
